Party of 5 | Lehigh Valley Newborn Photographer

This documentary newborn session with one of my favorite Hellertown PA families was all about capturing life at home with three children 4 and under. Parenting at this stage is busy, tiring, silly, colorful and full of laughter. I love how this family embraced a truly documentary approach and dressed as they usually would for a Sunday morning at home. We did do a few simple newborn portraits as well like we did with their second child, and a few family bed snuggles because it's nice to be all be in the frame together. It's been such a joy watching the E family grow since their oldest was about a year old! I'm grateful they've trusted me with yet another milestone in their family life.

Did you miss their birth photography session? Go back and have a look at this incredible mama's birth story.

Are you expecting and considering newborn photography? I'd love to talk with you about a relaxed in-home session to capture your family's story!

Strawberry Picking | Bucks County PA Child Photographer

It's my favorite time of year! I have so many fond memories of strawberry picking with my mom from the time I was an infant on through adulthood. My mom would jam enough berries to last a year of my PBJ sandwiches. I carry on the tradition with our kids, who especially love toast with butter and jam for breakfast.

We went to Trauger's Farm Market today which is just a pretty country drive away from home. It has been so cold and rainy I didn't expect too much out of the picking yet, but I figured we'd give it a shot since the kids were kind of bored at home today. We were so surprised by how fast the picking was! My kids have never picked so many berries in record speed! (The rock candy treat from their market store was a handy incentive ;) ).

If you are interested in making jam, I suggest trying Pomona's Universal Pectin instead of the grocery store brands available because it allows you to reduce the sugar by 50% or more. I've been using Pomona's for years now, and it is amazing. Our jam tastes like actual fresh berries rather than refined sugar. You can find it at Wegmans, Whole Foods, or on Amazon :) I'm not a Pomona's rep or anything, I just like to share my experience with something different. And guess what? I called their hotline last night while making the jam with a question about one of the recipes I'd never tried before, and today a real human being called me back and talked to me to troubleshoot! How awesome is that?!

I hope you get out and enjoy some berry picking with your family! According to Trauger's Farm, they should be out through the month of June.

And lastly, a little tip if you enjoy photographing your family's adventures as I do: I like to go strawberry picking on a cloudy day. The colors pop so much more and otherwise, it is usually harsh mid-day sun and there are so many shadows on the kid's faces.

A Sunset Legacy Session | Lehigh Valley + Bucks County PA Grandparent Photography

Grandparents are a legacy. My Legacy Sessions capture the unique bond between grandparents and grandchildren. My Legacy Sessions can also be booked to honor an aging or ill family member and document a piece of their life story.

When my client contacted me soon after her Spring family session to book a Legacy Session for her girls and her parents, I was ecstatic. Grandparents play such an important role in our children's lives but if you are like me, there are very few pictures documenting that special bond. What better way to honor their care and connection with your children than a fun and relaxed portrait session documenting the kids snuggling, swinging, and playing with their grandparents.

If you'd like to book a Legacy Session for a family member, please get in touch! I'd love to talk with you about how we can honor your family.

One of those days | Lehigh Valley + Bucks County PA Documentary Photographer

Valentine's Day was one of those days this year that was just nonstop action in our house. Every time I turned around, my youngest darlin' was getting into something. She is fighting naptime in a major way and that is just one battle I am not ready to stop fighting yet. This mama needs her downtime to regroup in the afternoons.

I keep my camera handy at home because when I enter a room and see the children at play or in beautiful light, I enjoy capturing that story on the fly. Here's a little peek at a few highlights from our crazy day.

Winter Adventures | Warren County + Clinton NJ Child Photographer

We took a little road trip today and had some fun hiking and exploring. Gathering treasures of tiny shells, fossils, driftwood, and just climbing around nature's jungle gym made for the perfect homeschooling morning after our bookwork was finished. I can't wait to get back here for a sunset family session!

I am currently booking Spring and Summer Child and Family sessions. Please contact me if you would love for me to capture your children at play and are interested in getting on my calendar.

Sunshine in January | Lehigh Valley + Bucks County PA Child Photographer

SUN! At long last! My kids acted like it was summer. My boys came home from our errands and put on shorts and t-shirts even though it was only 50 degrees. They ran for hours at the park while Josephine did her best to ride the giant hand-me-down scooter that she's been dying to learn to ride. I chatted with one of my besties and we made pictures because who could resist that light after weeks of fog and clouds.

Do you love my work? I am now booking storytelling sessions to capture the beauty of your family's day-to-day. I'd love to plan a session with you!

Donuts + playground date | Bucks County Family Photographer

When it's 50 degrees out in January, I declare that we head out for a treat from Yum Yum Bakeshops in Quakertown, and then spend some time burning off the winter energy at the playground that my kids affectionately call, "The Castle Playground." (I have no idea what it is really called, but I know that it is across from the Quakertown Library!)

People might think we photographers are just so obsessed with our own kids that we have to take a million pictures wherever we go. Actually, the truth of it is (for me, at least), is that the art itself is the addiction and you just feel a release when shooting. You see colors, patterns, angles, repetition, lines and light all around you all the time. And on a day like today when my kids just ran and played for over an hour, I got to just play too. I don't ask them to pose and smile, and they just ignore me anyways lol. I just get to capture them being THEMSELVES on a gloomy but warm winter day :)

And can I just say that as much as I LOVE me some dreamy backlighting, shooting on a cloudy day is so fun! The colors just pop!

When you can't rely on interesting light to make photographs more visually engaging, you have to see things from different perspectives and angles. I am drawn to really balanced and simple images with few distractions. I am drawn to lines and shapes in my imagery. And I just love working with a Sigma Art 24mm lens. Today I left the house with just this lens, and I love how it helps me to capture what I see.

365 Project Week One

We've made it a week into this year's 365 project! It's that time of year for lots of shadows and isolated indoor light. I'm hoping we get some more snow soon so we can really get out and play! This week I challenged myself to get IN the frame and start practicing self-portraits. It is HARD. Harder than I ever imagined. Now I know how all my mom clients feel when they see themselves in pictures. Even the most beautiful mamas are critical of themselves. It is so hard to see ourselves despite the million selfies people take daily. Anyways, I'll be playing around more with self-portraiture in our daily life here and there. Here are a few peeks a our week. It's kind of a fun change (and challenge!) to return to documenting my family life after such a busy fall season of client work.

Best of 2016- Professional | Lehigh Valley + Bucks County Family Photographer

Impossible to narrow it to just 16 favorites, so I will likely share more with time, but here are some of my favorite moments captured for my clients in 2016. In fact, these are only pulling from outdoor work this fall! So many beautiful families, light, and lots of love. Thank you all so much for inviting me into your lives for just a small little window and letting me capture your love.

Sunrise on the farm family session | Bucks County Family Photographer

Can we just talk for a minute about sunrise light? Oh my goodness it took my breath away. This is one of my amazing repeat families (I've gotten to see them every 3 months for a year!!!! How awesome is that?!) that was truly hardcore enough to meet me for a 7:45am session on a slightly frigid morning on a farm. Sunrise is truly underrated. The quality of light is just as stunning as sunset and our location made for some really warm and cozy fall portraits, as well as fun playtime with the farm animals! The goats were getting a little frisky with us, but my little buddy Grant didn't seem to mind one bit :)

Fall Family Session at the Lake | Bucks County Family Photographer

I adore this family and this location. We had so much fun together last weekend on a warm fall evening at Lake Nockamixon. There's something about rocks and water that makes every child happy. Thank you O Family for the opportunity to capture your family again!

From tree to table: a storytelling session of apple picking and pie making | Coopersburg PA Family Photographer

When my client contacted me the week of our session with a request for a change in plans for our location, I was totally onboard. Instead of a more traditional family session she proposed a storytelling session of their family baking apple pie. I then continued with the idea and suggested that we visit an apple orchard near their home first to capture the entire story- from tree to table.

This session was everything my heart longs for in family photography- capturing families being together, engaged in a meaningful activity, capturing the memories of sitting on the counter in mom's kitchen and rolling out dough and cranking the apple peeler. Of dipping your toes into the flour and then one of the pies just to be silly. Of feeding the dog the leftover strips of apple peel.

I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do, and I'd like to send a huge thank-you to Hamilton Orchards for their generous use of their land for our session and for the absolutely delicious apples.

early October in the meadow | Saucon Valley Child and Family Photographer

This little slice of heaven is practically in my backyard, and I've loved bringing clients to this park to frolic and play and pick wildflowers. The children just love it's wide paths to run and climb the boulders, explore what's around the bend, and just BE themselves in nature.

This family was totally adorable and was amazing enough to make the drive from Macungie to Saucon Valley for an early morning session. They totally rocked the playtime component of our session and we captured some beautiful candid moments along with their more traditional portraits. They even braved the swarms of gnats. I won't be sad when those buggers are done for the season!

Thank you L family for this beautiful fall frolic together! I love the colors and the emotions of your session so much! And these sisters... so genuine and so tender with one another.

Late September Golden Hour Family Session | Harleysville, PA Family Photographer

I received such a lovely review from the B Family after our session last week at this beautiful location in Montgomery County, PA. I had so much fun playing with their one and three-year old boys in the golden light of this late-September day.

I can’t say enough good things about our experience with AnneMarie! She was super responsive to any questions that we had and helped us coordinate our clothing for our session. She arrived at our photo shoot location early to scout everything out and had a clear vision of where the best places to photograph would be. She also did a great job interacting with our 3 year old and 1 year old. We couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out - AnneMarie has a great eye for photography and her use of light is amazing. We will definitely be booking our next family photo session with AnneMarie!
Center Valley, PA In-Home Family Session

This was the sweetest family that asked me to come to their home for family portraits and capturing their baby girl at 7 months. We got to capture a fun mix of some of the day-to-day of their children in their home environment as well as some relaxed family portraits.

Late summer in the meadows | Lehigh Valley Family Photographer

I just love when a family "gets it" when they come to one of my sessions. They came prepared to play- picnic packed, classic books to read with the kids, and were totally cool with spinning and playing with their little ones in the deep meadow of goldenrod. This location is  one of my favorite places at this time of year. The deep color from the goldenrod hints at the fall leaves about to turn. While summer flowers have mostly died from the heat elsewhere, this field is very much alive. We discovered caterpillars and butterflies, the children picked flowers and ran through the mowed paths. Loved this session and this family with all my heart.

What childhood dreams are made of | Ocean City NJ beach photographer
Ocean City NJ beach family photographer

My newly-turned five-year old looked up at me with sparkling eyes as we pedaled the surrey down the boardwalk and said, "Mom, I'm never going to forget this vacation." I pray the time never comes when they are less satisfied with simplicity. Larger than life sandcastles, collecting sea shells and hermit crabs, learning to ride the waves for the first time, playing arcade games, eating our way down the boardwalk- Kohr brother's peanut butter + chocolate twist ice cream, cotton candy and saltwater taffy.... these are the ingredients of vibrant childhood summer memories.

Peach Picking | Bucks County Family Photographer

We are wrapping up summer by crossing off another tradition from the bucket list- peach picking at Bob White Acres in Coopersburg, PA. We love all the different varieties of peaches they have available, and the kids love the neat basket wagons they have as well as the apple cider slushies served up at the little farm stand afterwards!

Peaches are only $1.05/lb for more than 20 pounds, and they are quick and easy to pick! I now have about 35 pounds of peaches to deal with, but they sure are delicious! Tastes like the end of summer! I wish these last two weeks of summer vacation would last forever, but we'll freeze lots of sliced peaches so we can enjoy a little taste of our favorite season in the dead of winter.

If you are interested in my documentary style of portraiture, I'd love to work with you to document your end-of summer fun! My schedule is getting tight but I have a few days available :)
