Apple Orchard Family Session | Lehigh Valley Family Photographer

I have so many favorite sessions from last fall that I never got around to sharing during the hectic busy season!

We had so much fun creating these gorgeous fall family photos in an apple orchard near Hellertown, PA. I love the pops of color from the trees in early October when the fall foliage hasn’t quite turned yet. Love their color palette and pops of color with maroon and mustard.

Would you like to book a fall family session in the apple orchard? It’s such a fun place for the kids I still have a few fall dates on the calendar available. September and early October are the best for orchard sessions while the apples are still on the trees.

Fall Family Photos in Wind Gap, PA | Lehigh Valley PA Family Photographer

I just loved the rich colors from this session that we shot last November in Wind Gap, PA. I’ve worked with this family for the past few years and it is always such a joy for me to have returning families year and year.

I love this location in Wind Gap PA for fall family pictures because of the wide open meadows, winding trail, and beautiful treeline. Even on a cloudy day we can capture the richness of the colors.

I personally love the neutral colors they used in selecting their outfits for fall family pictures. Solids with a few subtle patterns, layers like sweaters and down vests to add interest. A pop of color with the yellow to stand out.

All of my clients receive access to an online professional styling assistant this year! When you book your session you will receive a link to private access that helps you select clothes within your style and budget so you can save time from running around to a million stores!

Interested in booking a fall session? I still have a few openings and please don’t be afraid of November!!

Fall Family Photos | Lehigh Valley PA Family Photographer

I’m revisiting some of my favorite family sessions from last fall that I never got around to sharing as we prepare for the new busy season ahead. This was an early November family session in Hellertown PA. The leaves were at their peak and we captured the most beautiful colors in one of my favorite spots in town. I just love how playful this family is together. I choose to offer clients sessions in locations with lots of wide open space so that children feel comfortable playing and moving around. Everyone is more at ease in a wide open field and we can capture the most wonderful candid connections.

The first weekend in November still has session slots available for booking! You can check out my pricing and online calendar HERE!

A short storytelling session in Bethel, PA

Family photojournalism is so incredibly important to me as an artist. I long to create meaningful portraits of the family in motion, in their own space- the place the children will grow up remembering as their childhood home. They will look back on summer evenings in their yard, playing music with dad, creating art together as a family in their studio space, setting the dinner table and sharing the family meal together every night. Here's what they won't remember and won't care about: what you feel are imperfections in your decor, clutter organization, or renovations that you hope to get to but haven't yet.

Jenel being a phenomenal artist herself was interested in a family storytelling session to have an unique portrait of their family life. She also wanted to have a few more posed images of their family in their yard for the wall. So we did both! If you are interested in family photojournalism but don't want to sacrifice a more traditional family portrait I am happy to make time for that during our time together.

Some clients are sure if everyone in the family would be on board with this different type of photography. Thoughts might hold them back from a storytelling session like, Will our life be boring? Will our house be nice enough? Will my kids "last" for 2+ hours? Will it be awkward?

The truth of the matter is that these sessions are so so easy on the whole family because the kids love just getting to show me around their home and doing all the fun activities they would normally be doing on an afternoon. Grown-ups enjoy these sessions because the kids are relaxed and they don't have to "do" anything special. Just hang out as a family, go about your routine, and relax! I find beauty in every family I meet. I want to create timeless images of you as a mother, father, sibling that will become family heirlooms.

Thank you S family for allowing me into your space and filling up my artistic cup. Your family life truly is inspiring.

Fine Art Product Offerings | Lehigh Valley Photographer

I am going to be honest with you- we have 8 years of pictures stored on my hard drives, and for many years I was not great about making albums and printing prints for the kids to have when my hard drives have long since crashed and something happens to my cloud storage. I honestly don't even know where the pictures are stored from when my oldest was a baby. From family photo sessions, all I really have are the few prints from each session. And you know what has held me back all this time? It takes time, a lot of time, to create albums and think about wall galleries. Before you know it they've grown and we're on to the next best stage, and all the while I still never made that album from our trip to Disney 2 years ago. Maybe you have this problem too.

As much as I love digital files to share with friends online, I feel my art is truly purposeful when printed. I can tell you that when I have prints around the house, or DO make a photo album of a vacation or a special time in their lives, the kids feel famous. They love showing the albums to everyone who comes to visit, and retelling the memories triggered by the prints on my giant bulletin board in my office.

Because I feel like most of us loose track of time and have enough other projects on our never-ending to-do lists, I'm really passionate about every client leaving our session with SOMETHING tangible. Something that is done for you, and done quickly after your session before the images are forgotten on a USB drive. I want you to have at least some printed products from a lab that my work is calibrated with, whose products are of such high quality that you can't just order for yourself from any online retailer.  I've spent all winter ordering new products, testing out various fine art papers and finishes, and comparing labs. Did you know the color reproduction varies significantly between even PRO labs? I've spent hours selecting new products to offer my clients that feel truly special. I will no longer be offering traditional lustre prints as I always have. At this time I am only offering fine art papers in my product offerings because I want you to have something unique and luxurious to display in your home.

If we create a beautiful gallery of images, and they never make it past your hard drive, why did we even bother?

Have a look below at some of the sample products that are now in the shop. Bordered matte prints, mounted fine art prints, torn edge prints, and gorgeous leather or linen albums. Which would you love to see in your home?

How to display your pictures | Lehigh Valley PA Photographer

Custom designed albums tell your family story. Fine art museum archival prints make a statement in your home.

After all of my sessions clients have the option of me helping them to select fine art products to complete their digital portrait package. I believe in the power of the printed image and I believe in a finished job for my clients. Most of us are so busy we just never get around to designing that gallery wall that Pinterest makes us think is soooooo easy. Few of us take the time to design a storybook album with our beautiful images, because honestly, it can take forever and be overwhelming to decide which images to include and how to lay them all out.

I work with clients to find out how they want to display their images, and then I design it for them! I can show you what a gallery wall would look like and what arrangement fits best in your space. I can even deliver your prints matted and framed so you don't have to do a thing to get them off the hard drive and onto the walls.

I recently started offering these beautiful torn-edge and matted prints that are printed by a boutique lab on museum cotton paper. They are THICK and they are unique. They make such a bold statement whether just framed and displayed on a side table, or framed large for the wall. Either way you choose, they are going to be a conversation piece and draw people right in. A beautiful linen-covered coffee table album is another beautiful way to highlight the whole session, and assure that you actually get to revisit and enjoy all of the amazing images in your gallery, rather than forgetting about them except for the few that make it onto the Christmas card.

Of course my clients are not forced to purchase products from me, but I sure love it when they do because I offer options you cannot get elsewhere, and it means you don't have to worry about what to do with your images after the session. I love receiving these finished products in the mail to review before re-packaging and sending them off to my beloved client families. It makes me happy that our session fulfilled a bigger purpose than just a few shared images on social media.

"We recently invited AnneMarie to photograph our growing family as we welcomed our second son into our home. She was not only professional but more importantly she was such a personable and friendly woman who made our session fun. I love how she was attentive to our two year old son who was not always the most cooperative, but she managed to put him at ease long enough to capture many beautiful moments. It was also a fabulous decision to have her assistance with selecting photos. I loved physically sorting through the photos rather than just simply viewing them online. I also loved how she was able to show us different gallery arrangements for our wall spaces. Our experience was wonderful and we highly recommend her services." - Kristen A.

What's the difference between Lifestyle Photography and Documentary Photography? | |Montgomery County PA Documentary Photographer

You might see me posting a lot about these "Life Story" sessions lately. I'm going to explain a bit about how a Life Story documentary session is different than my traditional lifestyle sessions as we prepare to enter into the fall busy season and people are choosing what kind of portrait experience is best for them. If you are interested in booking a fall family portrait session, either lifestyle or documentary in Montgomery County, PA or the surrounding area, please reach out soon as my calendar is almost booked! There are only so many fall sunsets available so grab a spot now!

What is a "Lifestyle" session?

Most families have had some sort of "lifestyle" photography session done over the years. A "lifestyle" session is more modern than traditional posed portraits with props, and more traditional than a documentary session. It's kind of a comfortable middle ground. In a lifestyle session, I will gently pose your family and lead you into opportunities to connect with each other through touch or movement, in the most beautiful light available to us at an outdoor location- usually a park or a field. You can see a beautiful lifestyle motherhood session on the blog. I help coordinate your clothing and choose a beautiful location. We will do a few poses of everyone looking at me, and then use the rest of our time to connect with your family. These sessions are really beautiful and show connection, emotion and light without the use of any props.

How is a Life Story Documentary Session different from a lifestyle session?

A Life Story session is different than a lifestyle session because it is photojournalistic in nature. Your story, my lens. The session will take place at your home usually, or another location that is essential to the family story. We spend a few hours together and your family goes about the normal routine while I document your family life via my artistic voice. The kids are going to go about their regular play, potty training, bathtime, snacks, etc. Our goal is to give you an artistic representation of your daily life.  We are shooting for an album, to create a picture-story of this little slice of your daily world.

What kind of session is right for you?

When this sweet Montgomery County PA family contacted me about booking an end-of-summer session, at first mom had planned on doing a traditional lifestyle session at home. But as we talked more about what she wanted on her walls, and about the family dynamics and children's personalities, she decided that a Life Story documentary session would be more fun for the kids and would capture the authentic, beautiful chaos of life with 3 small children. I was super excited to tell their story.

We spent a little over 2 hours together than evening as the family wrapped up dinner and moved outside to spend quality time together playing water balloons, picking tomatoes, weeding the garden, and eating ice cream. When it was time for bath, I followed everyone in and concluded our story with that bedtime routine.

Thank you so much, D Family, for inviting me into your beautiful family life. It's been such a joy to capture these moments for you.

When I asked mom why they wanted to tell their story with a Life Story session, she responded, "The kids are growing up and Tessa is likely the last baby. I'd like to capture what it is really like having such a young family and how much fun and chaos it can be so I have fond memories to look back on and remember."

What story do you want to tell this fall?

If you are interested in a Philadelphia, Montgomery County, Bucks County or Lehigh Valley Lifestyle or Life Story Documentary family session this fall, please book now. My October calendar is 99% full. September and November have limited availability.

The sun rises and sets with you | Washington, DC Documentary Photographer

Together we rise.

This is a visual love story between a mother and child, of their bond that is as certain as the sun rising and setting day after day.

This truly was the kind of Life Story session that I dream about. It was authentic, full of raw emotions and universal expressions of motherhood. This storytelling session candidly portrays the daily rituals of a mother and babe at the end of the busy workday, running home from daycare to spend some quality time together before bedtime.

When Allison contacted me about doing a documentary session, she had a really special request: that it didn't end with bedtime so that we could capture the special time she shares with Enzo as they wake together each morning. We agreed for me to stay over so that I could be there come dawn to capture their waking moments, snuggled in bed, nursing and playing before beginning another hectic workday.

If you would be interested in having a part of your daily life captured through my lens, please contact me to book. I am available for limited travel sessions. I am offering a discount on Life Story documentary sessions that are booked and shot during the month of August.

Fair warning: If you get squeamish about the feminine figure, and mothers nursing their babes, then you might want to close right out of this post. This is a very intimate portrayal of motherhood- the daily rituals of caring for a baby, nursing to sleep, and nursing upon waking.

What kind of life story would you like us to tell during our session?

These images are mainly for me. I want real snapshots of our life together.

We go sit at the pool, on the lawn, or sit on our porch and read a book.

We take a bath, sing/dance, brush mommy's teeth and read before breast feeding and bed.

Why is it important to you to document this particular life story? What do these images of your everyday family life mean to you?

This is the hardest most amazing chapter of my life so far. When I'm not busy working, folding laundry and contemplating our life together, I'm trying to be incredibly present to him. I'm so in awe of this motherhood journey, but haven't documented it as well as I'd like to. I have very few images of us together, and sadly, most of them are selfies. Although I'm busying myself trying to build a life for us, I don't want to lose sight of the value of savoring the quiet, intimate moments of our life, too. I'm trying to capture this chapter before he's all grown up.

I feel these images deep in my core. Allison and I chatted about where we're at in life, and she asked me a really good question: What does living the fullest life look like for me? I had no answer for that question at the moment but it's one to really sit with for a while. After spending the past few days working with this story, I realized I am already living it. I need to remember that :) Creating art out of the beauty of motherhood, childhood, and family life feels very much like living this life to the fullest.

Would you like an authentic, documentary photography session with me?  Please contact me for details. I am available for travel for Life Story sessions.

Poconos Summer | Lake Harmony + Poconos PA Family Photographer
Sunshine in January | Lehigh Valley + Bucks County PA Child Photographer

SUN! At long last! My kids acted like it was summer. My boys came home from our errands and put on shorts and t-shirts even though it was only 50 degrees. They ran for hours at the park while Josephine did her best to ride the giant hand-me-down scooter that she's been dying to learn to ride. I chatted with one of my besties and we made pictures because who could resist that light after weeks of fog and clouds.

Do you love my work? I am now booking storytelling sessions to capture the beauty of your family's day-to-day. I'd love to plan a session with you!

Donuts + playground date | Bucks County Family Photographer

When it's 50 degrees out in January, I declare that we head out for a treat from Yum Yum Bakeshops in Quakertown, and then spend some time burning off the winter energy at the playground that my kids affectionately call, "The Castle Playground." (I have no idea what it is really called, but I know that it is across from the Quakertown Library!)

People might think we photographers are just so obsessed with our own kids that we have to take a million pictures wherever we go. Actually, the truth of it is (for me, at least), is that the art itself is the addiction and you just feel a release when shooting. You see colors, patterns, angles, repetition, lines and light all around you all the time. And on a day like today when my kids just ran and played for over an hour, I got to just play too. I don't ask them to pose and smile, and they just ignore me anyways lol. I just get to capture them being THEMSELVES on a gloomy but warm winter day :)

And can I just say that as much as I LOVE me some dreamy backlighting, shooting on a cloudy day is so fun! The colors just pop!

When you can't rely on interesting light to make photographs more visually engaging, you have to see things from different perspectives and angles. I am drawn to really balanced and simple images with few distractions. I am drawn to lines and shapes in my imagery. And I just love working with a Sigma Art 24mm lens. Today I left the house with just this lens, and I love how it helps me to capture what I see.

Sunrise, hot cocoa + donuts | Lehigh Valley & Bucks County Family Photographer

This beautiful testimony about her session was written by my client: such a sweet mama. Balancing a LOT- her family, her own successful business, children's activities... you know it all too well. Big plans, lots of mishaps for this shoot, but we ended up with MAGIC. Did they see it at the time? Nope. stressed we didn't get any good shots. You can't even imagine the beautiful gallery we created from this session. Just goes to show, your family is so beautiful even amidst the chaos. Relax and trust me to capture that for you :)

If only you could have been a fly on the wall (er, in the air) these past 24 hours. Our family photo shoot that I mentioned was happening this week? Did you see the gorgeous sunset God gifted the world last night for a beautiful family photo session? You didn't? Well guess what, NEITHER DID WE! This Mama had it in the family's calendar this entire. time. for the WRONG DATE. And here I thought I was so on top of my game having our clothes finalized and laid out days before. 🙈 Come to find out it was supposed to be LAST night. Not tonight. Sooooo in the wee morning hours today my clan made our way to a last minute sunrise session. As in, 7:45AM. And naturally we were running late. I had BIG plans in my head of how this year's photoshoot was going to pan out. Kids frolicking through the meadow while my husband and I toasted with our Moscow mule copper mugs of warm cocoa. 😂 Kids were tired and cold and as soon as our youngest started warming up, our oldest fell of his dad's shoulders and smacked his head on the ground. My gorgeous lace Lucy kept getting caught in the meadow's thorns. Ladies, it was one thing after another like out of a movie. The one consistent thing throughout it all? Our amazing photographer AnneMarie Hamant who was SO patient, gracious and beyond accommodating to this crazy, scattered-brained mom who botched the whole thing up in the first place. Here is a quick picture I snapped when we got home from all of the chaos. It is my precious Hadley donning remnants of her morning's outfit that included a pair of cozy LuLaRoe leggings, a pair of mismatched socks her Daddy dressed her in for the session and stayed on the entire time (Men!) AND you may note the new, shorter 'do which is the result of an impromptu hair cutting date she and her sweet cousin decided to have last weekend. Sigh. I share all this and show this sweet picture that makes me smile, because it is a reminder to me of the sweetness and beauty amongst chaos. Oh how far from perfect things panned out. And our Christmas Card will likely show a child with exhausted tears in her eyes and a dirty "Lovie" clutched in her paw, chocolate chunks in the teeth of another (from the doughnuts we were using as "rewards"), a son with a pounding headache, a husband stressed that he is beyond late for work, and a mom who is frazzled and desperate for ONE GOOD SHOT. Praise God for grace. Perfection is so boring, isn't it? It's all about making the best of these crazy moments. And striving to do so with a little bit of style and grace.
Sunrise on the farm family session | Bucks County Family Photographer

Can we just talk for a minute about sunrise light? Oh my goodness it took my breath away. This is one of my amazing repeat families (I've gotten to see them every 3 months for a year!!!! How awesome is that?!) that was truly hardcore enough to meet me for a 7:45am session on a slightly frigid morning on a farm. Sunrise is truly underrated. The quality of light is just as stunning as sunset and our location made for some really warm and cozy fall portraits, as well as fun playtime with the farm animals! The goats were getting a little frisky with us, but my little buddy Grant didn't seem to mind one bit :)

Fall Family Session at the Lake | Bucks County Family Photographer

I adore this family and this location. We had so much fun together last weekend on a warm fall evening at Lake Nockamixon. There's something about rocks and water that makes every child happy. Thank you O Family for the opportunity to capture your family again!

Baby G is 9 months! | Bucks County, PA Apple Orchard Session

Late September Golden Hour Family Session | Harleysville, PA Family Photographer

I received such a lovely review from the B Family after our session last week at this beautiful location in Montgomery County, PA. I had so much fun playing with their one and three-year old boys in the golden light of this late-September day.

I can’t say enough good things about our experience with AnneMarie! She was super responsive to any questions that we had and helped us coordinate our clothing for our session. She arrived at our photo shoot location early to scout everything out and had a clear vision of where the best places to photograph would be. She also did a great job interacting with our 3 year old and 1 year old. We couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out - AnneMarie has a great eye for photography and her use of light is amazing. We will definitely be booking our next family photo session with AnneMarie!

It is our favorite time of year, and our fall family traditions include apple picking on the weekend of my husband's birthday. We've been going as a family since our oldest was just 3 weeks old!

This year we checked out a small mom and pop farm in Coopersburg called Hamilton Orchard. They have a lot of varieties and we even were able to pick the last of summer's peaches.

Late summer in the meadows | Lehigh Valley Family Photographer

I just love when a family "gets it" when they come to one of my sessions. They came prepared to play- picnic packed, classic books to read with the kids, and were totally cool with spinning and playing with their little ones in the deep meadow of goldenrod. This location is  one of my favorite places at this time of year. The deep color from the goldenrod hints at the fall leaves about to turn. While summer flowers have mostly died from the heat elsewhere, this field is very much alive. We discovered caterpillars and butterflies, the children picked flowers and ran through the mowed paths. Loved this session and this family with all my heart.
