One more…

I love this family portrait, and I forgot to include it in the last set. I love portraits that capture a family’s interactions. This is the difference with an on-location lifestyle session and a traditional big-box portrait studio.

A beautiful autumn family session…
Posted on October 17, 2010
This was one of my favorite recent family sessions with little J at 6 months and his mom and dad. The drive out to their home in Virginia was just spectacular; as I drove and watched the light bounce off the yellowing leaves, I knew it was going to be a perfect day for a shoot. Sweet little J is at the perfect age for portraits- old enough to sit on his own, and not old enough to crawl away! My favorite stage to photograph! He was just as mellow and friendly as his mom and dad- a true reflection of their relaxed and inviting personalities. This session was made extra special by the presence of J’s grandparents, who are in town from Maine. After our formal family portraits, we took to the kitchen for some documentary photography of the family working together to prepare delicious homemade ravioli. I loved the framed photo of Bisnona, great-grandmother, with her ravioli, watching over 3 generations of her family gathered to prepare a favorite meal. I can honestly say these ravioli were AMAZING because sweet R sent me home with a batch to enjoy for dinner tonight with my family. I served mine with browned butter sage sauce, and John Patrick said “mmmmmmmm” when he tasted his first bite. So, was it the adorable baby, relaxed portraits, family fun, or FOOD that made this my favorite family session this season? All of the above. Thank you all so much for inviting me into your home to photograph a truly special family!

Isn't this a spectacular back yard? I am moving to the country!!

Is he precious or what?!

Part II to include pictures from the ravioli session!
Complementary mini session for one special family!
Posted on October 13, 2010
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to photograph a family that would not otherwise have the opportunity for professional portraits. Family portraits should be family heirlooms to be treasured for many generations. If you or someone you know would like to be considered for a complementary mini portrait session, please share my website on your Facebook page or blog, and email me a bit about why you are thankful for your family. All entries must be received by Wed. October 20 to be considered. Please spread the word!
30 minute mini session will be held on November 6th ONLY at the Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD.
Please contact me for more details! Looking forward to hearing about all the wonderful families you know!
Ani
Posted on October 13, 2010
Dear little Ani is one of John Patrick’s best friends. They play together in our courtyard many days during the week. They mostly dig in the mulch together and make a mess in dirt. But the other day we got them all dressed up and took Ani to the Strathmore for a portrait session. I forget how beautiful the Strathmore is for portraits, and we live right next door! Ani is one stylin’ little lady, and I just love her tights and plaid mini skirt ensembles!

I love the wonder in her eyes here.

I know, another one of tights.. but I couldn't help it. I just love them with the brick and rusty stairs!

A plane flew by and she was really checking it out!

Sweet Caroline

Love it or hate it, Facebook has it’s benefits. Like re-connecting me with my long lost friend from middle school! Last week I was invited to spend an evening catching up and meeting her family, and photographing newborn Caroline. She is a big, healthy girl, and looks more like a two month old than a two week old! Thanks so much for having me over J and W. So good to see you and meet the girls! They are precious!

Look at these arm chubbies! I love it!

Cousins
Posted on October 11, 2010
If you follow my blog, you may recognize the face of one of these sweet little girls, who I get to photograph often. This portrait session was a special occasion of long-distance cousins reunited for some relaxed play in tutus and with hula hoops. The girls weren’t much up for posing, so we got a work out chasing after them. They are just darling, and their affection for one another is obvious. I just love it when families are close like this!

Bay View, Milwaukee

William and I used to be frequent travelers, but since the birth of our little guy John Patrick, we haven’t gotten away as much as we would like. Last weekend we headed to Milwaukee to visit my very best friend (my freshman year college roommate!) at her home in this fabulously hip little neighborhood in Milwaukee. I liked Milwaukee so much- the people were so genuinely nice! Were is not so SO cold for most of the year, I wouldn’t even mind living there!
I love this shot of my husband. William just looks so fitting next to the used bookstore sign (his favorite type of store) in this alternative little nook of the city.

While my family was away last weekend for a wedding in Chicago, I had the opportunity to photograph my cousin’s adorable 5-month old. She is just perfect! And I just adore her “chubbies”! That is what we call rolls in our house! Thank you T and C for making time for our photo shoot amidst the busy family reunion weekend! SO good to finally meet Charlotte and I can’t wait to see her again!

Isn’t this just a gorgeous looking family?
